IGNOU Vijayawada Regional Centre: It was carved out of Hyderabad RC and became an individual regional centre in June 2008. The department started operating in July 2008 in the town of Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh. The department was founded to provide decentralized educational services to the students of the districts such as Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Nellore, Prakasam, Guntur, Krishna, Chittoor in Rayalaseema Region and Khammam in Telangana Region.
The regional centre is under the supervision of Dr D R Sharma, the senior regional director. The RC started operating in July 2008 with only 26 study centres, two from Koraput including Srikakulam and Vijayanagaram districts, which were previously under the RC Koraput for three years, and twenty-four from Hyderabad regional centre. Currently, the learner support centres have expanded to 49, along with an increased number of admissions.
The regional centre in Vijayawada was later bifurcated in 2011 March, and the new RC of Visakhapatnam was created. With this new department, the 5 districts such as Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam, Nellore Chittoor and Khammam district were transferred from Visakhapatnam to Vijayawada in 2013. Additionally, to reach farther areas in the region, IGNOU handed the functions of Sub Regional Centre Tirupati to Vijayawada RC in 2016.

The Vijayawada RC has been handling the educational needs of Kurnool, Anantapur, Kadapa, Chittoor, Nellore, Prakasam, Guntur, and Krishna districts until March 2022. With the formation of 15 new districts that is Sri Satya Sai, Ananthapur, Nandyal, Kurnool, Annamayya, YSR, Chittoor, Tirupati, SPSR Nellore, Prakasam, Palnadu, Bapatla, Guntur, NTR, and Krishna districts, they all came under the jurisdiction of Vijayawada. At present, the Vijayawada Learner Support Centre provides support services to 20 student centres.

IGNOU Vijayawada Regional Centre Offered Courses
The regional centre offers a wide array of courses such as Master of Commerce (MCom), Post-Graduate Diploma in International Business Operations (PGDIBO), and Post-Graduate Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication (PGJMC). For Bachelor’s degrees, some options are Bachelor of Arts (Tourism Studies) (BTS), Bachelor of Commerce (BCom), and Bachelor of Science (BSc).

IGNOU Vijayawada Regional Centre Admission Updates 2025
IGNOU Admission for the 2025-2026 July cycle wil starts at the Vijayawada Regional Centre for all the offered courses. Students from the Vijayawada RC region can apply from 12 May 2025* and the last date will be 30 June 2025*. Students can visit the official site ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in. If you are registering for the first time, go through the following application steps.
IGNOU Vijayawada Regional Centre Admission Process 2025
- To gain admission to the current July cycle, students can opt for the online process and start by accessing the regional centre site @rcvijayawada.ignou.ac.in.
- On the homepage, under the “Contact Details,” section, click on “Fresh Admissions for July 2025 Open”
- Access the official admission website @ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in.
- Register by clicking on the “click here for new registration” button. Provide the name of the applicant, user ID, password, email address, and password, and click on “Register”.
- Next, continue with the sign-in process, and after completing it proceed to the online application form. Add the details in the blanks, select a course, and submit the program-related documents, like educational proof, photograph and signature of the student, category certificate and so on. The papers should be all scanned and within the specified sizes.
- Complete the submission by paying INR 300 registration fee using debit or credit cards, or net banking.

Dr D R Sharma is the supervisor of the regional centre as the senior regional director. The support centre offers various training, and offer counselling. The team of the RC is dedicated to providing extensive information about the programs to academicians, Guardians and students. Other than this, they offer pre- and post-admission counselling about which course to participate in and other activities.
Furthermore, the RC is well-equipped with a library that consists of reference books, program guides, video cassettes, CDs of recordings of interactive teleconference and academic programs, a Direct Receiving System (DRS), a computer laboratory with telephone, fax, TV / VCR / VCD, scanners, printers, CD-writers, servers, and Wi-Fi.
