IGNOU Shimla Regional Centre: Indira Gandhi National Open University, Shimla regional centre is one of the prominent and well-known study centres of the university and was built in 1989. The regional office is under IGNOU and was established to supervise and coordinate the operations of the region’s study centres and for other practical purposes.
It also works to monitor and support the link between the state institutions and the university. Dr. Joginder Kumar Yadav operates as the senior regional director of the centre. The IGNOU Shimla Regional Centre was primarily founded with only 8 study centres in Jammu & Kashmir, Chandigarh, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh, with 700 students.
After this, in 1991, new RCs were established, and Shimla regional centre received the jurisdiction of Himachal Pradesh, which now comprises 30 LSCs (Learner Support Centres) with the enrollment of 50000 students (according to the report of 2022), providing effective open and distance learning mode studies in the state. This Shimla department works as the “Resource Centre” in Himachal Pradesh.

IGNOU Shimla RC Admission Process 2025
- The admission process starts from the official regional centre website rcshimla.ignou.ac.in.
- Once there, go to the “Study Centre” section from the left side of the page, and there from the right-side notifications click on “Admission Notice for July 2025 Session
- From there, note down the ODL and Online mode admission portal and type the URL in the preferred browser ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in.
- The first thing you have to do is register as a new candidate and enter information such as the name of the applicant, username, password, phone number, email address, and so on.
- You will get the login details to sign in to the student profile.
- After this, finish the online application, choose your preferred program, and upload the scanned papers like scanned photographs of the student, their signature, educational certificates, and others.
- Now, after paying the fee using credit or debit cards or net banking, complete the application.
