IGNOU Koraput Regional Centre: This RC was established after it was upgraded from a sub-regional centre in September 2005. The purpose of the regional office is to reach the unreached in the rural and tribal areas of Odisha. With its humble beginning, over the years, the RC currently has increased student admissions. Primarily, the learner support centre started as a sub-regional department in February 2004 to provide educational requirements to people from backward sections of the state.
The next year, to cater to the increasing demand for higher education, IGNOU upgraded the office to an individual status in September 2005. Dr Latika Kumari Mishra is the current regional director of this regional centre at Koraput. The Koraput RC at present functions from a small building rented out by the government of Odisha.
The regional centre receives support from the district administration in all the districts under its supervision. Thus, the educational centres and non-governmental organizations of the RC have been able to spread the light of education to the rural and tribal areas of Koraput, and the enrollment number has increased over the years.
In the beginning, the RC started with only 12 study centres, now, it has 50 learner centres, along with one partner institute, some AISECT centres, and two community colleges. More than 70 programs are offered in these departments and are provided to the disadvantaged students in the region to allow a chance of educational empowerment to all.
