IGNOU Chennai Regional Centre: It is one of the biggest learning centres in India, it was founded in 1988 with the aim to provide higher education to the mass of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Union Territory of Puducherry and Tamil Nadu state. Dr. K. Panneerselvam is the appointed senior regional director at the department.
Later from the Chennai RC, two regional centres were formed, one at Madurai and at Port Blair, which caters to the needs of total 19 Tamil Nadu districts, including Union Territory of Pondicherry with Karaikal, Tirupattur, Mayiladuthurai, Kallakurichi, Ranipet, Chengalpet, Thiruvannamalai.
Thiruvallur, Namakkal, Perambalur, Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Vellore, Salem, Vilupuram, Kancheepuram, and Chennai. In 2018, the RC conducted “Campus to Corporate-honing the skills of students” on September 26, along with the Learning centre number 2509, at Sacred Heart College, Tirupatthur.

- The admission procedure will be commence for July 2025 session at the IGNOU Chennai Regional Centre from 20 May 2025* on the official IGNOU website.

IGNOU Chennai Regional Centre Admission Updates 2025
IGNOU Admission will start at the Chennai Regional Centre for the July 2025 academic session from 20 May 2025* and will be conclude on 30 June 2025*. The online application will be available on the portal ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in. On this platform, candidates have to complete registration, verify their account, create a DEB ID (distance education bureau) and fill up the form, by choosing a course and paying the fee of INR 300. The steps are detailed below for the convenience of the students.

IGNOU Chennai Regional Centre Admission Process 2025
- The enrollment process entails very few steps, and for the convenience of the students from Chennai, the first step is to visit the RC official portal rcchennai.ignou.ac.in.
- Here, at the right side of the homepage, under the “Contact details”. For details, ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in/” link to be prompted to the application portal of IGNOU Samarth, ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in.
- Upon accessing the website, register by clicking on the “Click here for new registration” button.
- Add the username and password, applicant’s name, email address, mobile number and a verification code to register.
- Next, you will receive the login details, and enter them in the required blanks under “Registered user login” section.
- After you have completed the login, it’s time to fill in the form, input the necessary information, choose the course you are interested in. Upload the documents like scanned signature, photograph of the candidate, educational degree certificates, category certificate, work experience proof, etc. Make sure to double check the upload and the form details.
- Now, make the payment of the registration fee through net banking, debit or credit cards.

IGNOU Chennai Regional Centre Faculties
IGNOU Chennail RC is supervised by the senior regional director Dr. K. Panneerselvam. Almost all learning centres under the jurisdiction of Chennail RC offers disabled-friendly facilities to provide extended support to physically handicapped students, also the centres allow scribe facility during the term end exams. Other than this, the RC conducts medical tests, regular online pre-admission counselling, and delivers fee exemptions for the reserved category applicants.
There are also scholarship facilities for prospective candidates. IGNOU RC Chennai conducts “Swachhata Hi Seva” campaigns in all learner centres, along with that the regional department offers Web Conferencing, Tele convocation, Teleconference, Gyan Vani Radio, Interactive Radio and library conveniences. Furthermore, IGNOU RC Chennai extends its support to jail inmates at Central Prison, Puzhal, Special Prison for Women, Vellore, and Central Prison, Vellore.
