IGNOU Gangtok Regional Centre: The regional centre in Gangtok was established in 2000, December. However, IGNOU started its operations in Sikkim from 1989, before the foundation of the RC. The study centre started working from the Sikkim Government College Tandong (now known as Bahadur Bhandari Degree College) from then, and it was under Regional Centre Kolkata, later it went under Guwahati Regional Centre. The current regional senior regional director of the RC is Dr. Yonah Bhutia.
After its inception in 2000, the learners support centres started working actively in each district of the state to provide higher education facilities. Currently, there are 8 learning centres, including 3 special study centres, 4 regular study centres, and 1 program study centre. In Gangtok, there is one study department of IGNOU in each district.

IGNOU Gangtok Regional Centre Admission Updates 2025
The Indira Gandhi National Open University will commence the admission procedure for July 2025 academic session at the Gangtok Regional Centre from 12 May 2025* and the last date will be 30 June 2025*. The online enrollment can be done online by visiting the official site, ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in.
While candidates can apply at the regional centre of Gangtok as well, with the physical copies of the required documents relevant to the program they wish to study. The online process is simple and requires only a few steps. Students can complete the task at home or at a nearby cybercafe. An overview of the application is detailed below.
IGNOU Gangtok Regional Centre Admission Process 2025
- IGNOU Gangtok Regional Centre online application process includes going to the RC website rcgangtok.ignou.ac.in.
- From the top left side of the page, click on the “Student Corner” button to access a list and click on “Admission”. It will take you to a new website, click on “Student Services” and click on “Admissions”.
- After this, click on the mode you want to apply in, like “Apply for ODL Programme”, “Apply for Online Programme”, or others.
- The page will redirect to the official application site of IGNOU ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in.
- Once on this page, you need to register first using your name, valid email ID, and mobile number, create a unique username and password using 6 to 9 alphanumeric characters, add the verification code, and tap on the “Register” button.
- Using the created login details, log in with the profile.
- After signing in as a student, complete the online form, select the course you want to enroll in and submit the documents mentioned on the page. The scanned papers you need are, an educational certificate, category certificate, a passport-size photograph and signature of the applicant, and other details.
- Now, pay the fee of INR 300 using any method mentioned there.
IGNOU Gangtok Regional Centre Faculties
Dr. Yonah Bhutia as the senior regional director at the IGNOU Gangtok Regional Centre oversees the functions of the study centre. The learning centre offers various supportive services like library, and student grievance redressal (Thursday from 4 to 5 pm). The centre also conducts campaigns like cleanliness, International Yoga Day, and more.
